voltor2.jepbosch

Montsec is an impressive mountain range in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, that extends for 40 km from east to west. When seen from Vall d’Àger, it rises up like a huge wall of rock and has large viewpoints, ideal for birding.

Alas sobre el Montsec are two signposted ornithological trails

RUTA DEL QUEBRATAHUESOS (BEARDED VULTURE TRAIL) | RUTA DEL AGUILA (EAGLE TRAIL)

Each trail has 7 itineraries to choose from, 1 for mountain bike lovers and the other 6, for hiking lovers. There are trails for all levels, from 7 km up to 10 hour walks.

Birding at Montsec is possible at any time of the year, though the best season is between September and June.

Don´t forget your binoculars!

Ruta del águila (Eagle trail)

The sun rises in the east, and the eagle, in the west.

The eagle trail follows an axis from east to west in the southern half of Montsec, between the villages of Artesa de Segre and Ivars d´Urgell. Here you can witness up to 4 species of eagle: the golden, booted, short-toed and the partridge eagle.
